What is ArchiCAD?
ArchiCAD is what I use when I’m working with European architects or on projects where Revit isn’t the standard. It’s BIM. It’s collaborative. It’s less Autodesk-centric.
ArchiCAD’s interface feels more intuitive than Revit. I can model faster. The documentation tools generate elevations, sections, and schedules directly from the 3D model. I’ve used it on a TradeMark Africa office where the architect delivered the base model in ArchiCAD. I co-ordinated interiors without file conversion headaches.
The new AI Visualizer lets me generate design variations from text prompts. I used it to explore three different reception desk concepts in under an hour. The client picked one. We moved forward.

The push-pull tool makes it easy to extrude walls, create furniture, and test spatial arrangements. I use SketchUp to model custom millwork before sending specs to the fabricator. The 3D Warehouse has thousands of free models. I’ve pulled furniture, fixtures, and even full kitchen layouts directly into my projects.
SketchUp exports to AutoCAD and Revit. I model the concept here, then bring it into AutoCAD for dimensioning and construction documentation.
Limitation: SketchUp doesn’t handle complex parametric modeling or BIM workflows. It’s a concept tool, not a documentation tool.
